The Percussion Ensemble performs works written exclusively for percussion in a chamber music format as well as for large ensemble including those of contemporary and traditional composers as well as the time-honored music of various world cultures. The ensemble is open to all percussion students by audition and performs an on-campus concert each semester.
The Steel Band (MUSE 309) explores the music of steel drums from the traditional music of Trinidad and Tobago to contemporary arrangements of popular music as well as symphonic music arranged for steel band. The Steel Band promotes superior ensemble and performance skills, performs a variety of concerts on and off campus, and is open to any ²Ø¾«¸ó student by audition.
The Cincinnati/Northern KY area offers abundant arts opportunities. Our percussion faculty has extensive connections at the local, regional, and national levels, which provides numerous benefits to our students. Students who aspire to teach at local high school bands and drumlines or offer private lessons are encouraged to do so, while those who want to perform locally can pursue opportunities as well. Our faculty’s strong ties to the freelance scene in Cincinnati mean that our students have gig opportunities and can gain valuable professional experience.
